What is a watch?
A watch is a timepiece that has been designed to be worn on the wrist of a person with a strap or bracelet. In addition to telling the time, modern watches often display the day, date, month, year and other complications. Some even have a moon-phase display.
You can get different types of watches with different movements that power them. Most watches which are in the inexpensive to medium price range are used mainly for timekeeping and are powered electronically with quartz movements. Watches that are expensive, and often collectible, are valued more for their workmanship and aesthetic appeal. These watches often have movements that are purely mechanical and are powered by springs, even though watches with mechanical movements are often less accurate.
Prior to the 20th century, most watches were pocket watches. These watches had covers and were carried around in a pocket. They were attached to a watch chain.
