This season, we invite you to join us on a journey through the Mappin & Webb archive as we introduce a limited edition collection designed and created to incorporate some of the intricate and detailed sketches that have been weaved through the tapestry of our company’s history throughout the past century. Long associated with purity, faithfulness, eternity and beauty, our new limited edition Lotus collection is inspired by the symbolic Lotus flower and floral designs found in our creative vault, brought to life with the help of expert designers and our talented buying team.
There are eight styles within the collection, crafted in both 18ct white and rose gold, our very first collection to feature this precious metal. Each design has been carefully created to represent the look and feel of Mappin & Webb with nods to the lotus flower in its subtle detailing. With only a small number of each style made, this is a true limited edition and your chance to own something unique to treasure for a lifetime.
We spoke to Lexi Bolton, one our of jewellery buyers, who was instrumental in bringing the Lotus collection to fruition.
Hi Lexi, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your role.
I’m Lexi and I am the Junior Buyer for the Bridal and Diamond Jewellery team at the Watches Of Switzerland Group. I have been in buying for almost 6 years now which has mostly been in fashion. I moved into jewellery when I joined the WoS Group in October 2018 to manage the Mappin and Webb own brand jewellery collections. It is my job to develop product, introducing new collections and styles, whilst keeping the core range relevant and fresh.
Tell us a little bit more about the collections at Mappin & Webb as a whole, the history behind them and the best selling pieces.
Our stunning collections at Mappin and Webb have all been created with references to our incredible archive which dates back to 1775. To have a history to be able to draw inspiration from is an excellent asset, to create beautiful collections with a sense of heritage. A great example of this is our Empress collection, which is the most icon collection in our range and a great seller for us. Empress was inspired by a beautiful motif designed for the Queen of Siam and presented to her in the early 1920s. All of our Mappin and Webb product is of the highest quality and we pride ourselves on producing immaculate, timeless and truly special jewellery pieces that our clients can treasure forever.
Tell us a little more about the new Lotus collection and its history.
The Lotus collection also takes inspiration from our archive. Browsing through the delicate pages of intricate artwork, we came across a lot of floral references throughout the years. Many of these with an exotic styling to them as they were often being created for our clients in other parts of the world. Several of these designs had a lotus-like shape to them which was our starting point! We knew we wanted to develop a collection that incorporated rose gold, as this is a precious metal missing from our core ranges, and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do so. Through working closely with a designer, we came up with the beautiful Lotus collection exclusively for Mappin & Webb.
Who do you see wearing the Lotus collection and when?
We designed the collection with a varied end-use in mind. Some of the pieces, like the halo pendant and matching earrings, are very classic and can be worn with any outfit. The Lotus detail is subtly tucked away under the halo and is visible as the products move with the body. Other styles in the collection are bolder! The Lotus circle necklace is a real statement piece and stands out for its gorgeous pink floral details set with scintillating diamonds in white gold. All of the designs within the Lotus collection are versatile and can suit an array of styles.
Which pieces are your favourite in the Lotus collection and why?
My favourite piece in the collection is the stunning Lotus cuff ring. It is a stunning, wide band of diamond-set white gold with beautiful rose gold flowers running through its centre. It is the one piece in the range that I have to put on whenever I pull the product out to show someone! It is a real showpiece, and is fashionable whilst still being very wearable and makes me happy when I wear it!
