Artificial Enhancement

These days a variety of technologies, including lasering and fracture filling, has been developed to remove or disguise the natural impurities that occur in all gems. However, Mappin & Webb never knowingly sell gemstones whose clarity or colour has been artificially enhanced.

Our buyers work closely with suppliers to ensure that none of our diamonds and gems has been subjected to artificial intervention of any kind.

Labour Exploitation

Many of Mappin & Webb' suppliers are based overseas. Asian countries are particularly important, and growing, centres of jewellery manufacture. Although other overseas industries have often been accused of exploiting their workforces, Mappin & Webb only uses established and reputable manufacturers and suppliers.

Our buyers work hard to ensure that our suppliers operate on an ethical and equitable basis, without any form of workforce exploitation.

Pricing

Our pricing policy reflects the value of our products and services. Watches and branded gifts are sold at the manufacturer's recommended retail price, unless otherwise stated through special offers.

Our pricing of gold and diamond products reflects the fair value of the quality of raw materials and workmanship. We do not operate any artificial price comparisons, and all our sale items are sold at a genuine discount on the retail price.
