Our Mappin & Webb master craftsmen have served in the prestigious and honourable position of Crown Jeweller since 2012. Firstly Martin Swift, and subsequently from 2017 to this very day, Mark Appleby LVO. The Crown Jeweller is the custodian of the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London and is responsible for the annual maintenance of the Crown Jewels, as well as attending the Royal Maundy Service, Royal Christenings and Baptisms. Also attending The State Opening of Parliament and of course highly significant occasions such as a State funeral of a Monarch, followed by a Royal Coronation, both of which Mark Appleby LVO has had the great honour of attending during his time as custodian of the Crown Jewels.
The Crown Jeweller
Mark Appleby LVO has worked in the Jewellery Trade for 46 years. Trained as a restorer and renovator of antique and modern jewellery, he has had the fortune of working upon priceless pieces of historic jewellery throughout his fascinating career as a working hands-on jeweller.
Mark was invited to set up the Mappin & Webb Jewellery Workshop back in 2001 and by 2010 was asked to look after, and manage, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s private collection of jewellery.
In 2017, Mark was appointed as Her Majesty’s Crown Jeweller and subsequently Crown Jeweller to His Majesty King Charles III. Year to date, Mark has been incredibly honoured to execute these amazing duties.
