What does attending Vicenzaoro 2023 mean to you as a jewellery buyer and subsequently, our Mappin & Webb clients?

Vicenzaoro is, without doubt, an inspiring place to be. As Jewellery Buyers, we harness the opportunity to view emerging and growing trends across all jewellery and bridal categories, and to connect with our suppliers as we continue to build upon our incredibly strong relationships. This is our prime time to develop new seasonal product and explore opportunities for our new designs, bringing our clients refined, contemporary pieces that reflect our brand. We are always on the lookout for new technologies, rare gemstones, or one-of-a-kind pieces that will wow our clients too.

Did you see the emergence of any new trends that particularly excited you? Are you able to give us a window into what they might be?

I’m really excited to see more fluid linear styles coming through that feature fancy stones, exploring new ways to combined mixed cuts. This executed particularly well in dress rings which introduced fancy cut diamonds into the design, with the fancy stone leading the diamond set lines.

Crossover and dimensional spirals were consistent throughout jewellery designs in diamond and coloured gemstones. Coloured gemstones are always so captivating but tonal shades of blue and green sapphires complimenting one another within the same design, really caught my eye this year. The bridal market continues to see fancy cut stones leading the way for engagement rings, with the presence of oval, emerald, and pear cuts with more unusual stones like radiant cuts becoming more present.

We’ve seen pearl jewellery, gold, coloured gemstones, layering and more in 2022 – what’s on the horizon for our clients in 2023/24?

I think it’s safe to say that layering will continue with the basis being classic, luxury line bracelets and hoops, but expect more halo designs to be layered in with these. Halos were prevalent across the show in fancy shapes, with a particular focus in drop and hoop earrings. These give a bigger look and enhanced scintillation around the centre stone. Coloured gemstone jewellery continues to drive forward with a more contemporary appeal, experimenting with fancy cut colour and diamond combinations in unexpected pairings that feel modern, and bring new interest to classic stones.

Were there any wow pieces that really stood out to you and if so, what was it about them that made them particularly appealing and why do you think they will appeal to our clients?

The large carat weight coloured gemstones such as aquamarine and morganite across cocktail rings in asher, emerald and oval cuts were stunning! In the jewellery pieces Halos and contrasting diamond stones were used to compliment gemstones, a standout for me was an unexpected kite cut diamond positioned above a morganite pear drop. The combination was simply breathtaking with the angular and irregular diamond cut with a romantic pear shape was a really unusual design combination. It’s impossible to have picked just one favourite from the show so a second has the be a three stone halo ring with a 1ct radiant cut centre with electric blue pear Paraiba tourmaline side stones that were mesmerising.

Our luxury brand partners FOPE, and Roberto Coin were at the show – will they have any exciting new pieces to share with us this year?

Vicenzaoro presents the opportunity to review new collections from two of our key luxury brands- FOPE and Roberto Coin, in the city where all their beautiful jewellery is made.

Continuing to innovate as always, FOPE’s trademark Flexit technology has also seen further developments within their necklaces, but it was their stunning new collection called Souls which has a coloured gemstone and ring emphasis, that really stood out. Souls is a mesmerising collection - it’s a more minimal look from FOPE and encompasses a collection of rings that feature pink, and blue sapphires alongside emeralds, rubies, and diamonds. These are beautiful feminine pieces which I think will appeal to existing clients of FOPE to stack with their current collection, as well as attracting a new client that perhaps hasn’t bought the brand before.

For Roberto Coin whilst we will see a larger collection of newness in Geneva, we did see some beautiful extensions to the existing Love in Verona collection-with an emphasis on larger carat weights which we know our clients will love!

I’m also excited to see what the Creative Directors behind the likes of FOPE, Roberto Coin , Messika, and GUCCI have been working on. It’s hard to forecast what these amazing brands will be showing us in the next few months - but very exciting! Lisa Hall; Buyer – Luxury Branded Jewellery
