From the Ancient Egyptians; to the Roman Empire; Gods and Goddesses; Emperors, Kings and Queens, gold was a luxury that celebrated their status and wealth. Owning gold, whether it be as an urn, the thread within their opulent clothing or the jewellery that adorned them was symbolic of how they wanted society to view them. Owning gold was rich pickings.

As time progressed, along with technology, so did society, and gold became a precious metal not just considered for the wealthy and noble. The fact that gold jewellery has retained its popularity for centuries is testament to its timeless appeal.

Timeless Luxury

Gold jewellery is timeless for so many reasons. Its bright and shiny aesthetic radiates luxury, which is an undeniable draw in itself. Added to that, gold has always been in high demand, and just like any precious gemstone or metal that becomes more sought-after, it also usually becomes more scarce…and so the cycle of increased demand continues. It’s safe to say that gold jewellery is not only just beautiful, but a timeless investment to treasure.

A Golden Spectrum

Available as yellow, white, or rose gold, it is often very much down to personal preference or how the tides of trends influence us as to which is the most desirable. Yellow gold was used over 2,000 years ago as a wedding band and still remains the initial ‘go-to’ colour when the term ‘gold’ is referenced. Through recent decades, a more contemporary approach to gold jewellery became highly desirable and white gold became a modern-day favourite of those who steered away from tradition. White metals were seen on the celebrity scene and there is no doubt that diamonds are hugely complemented by a white gold setting. Rose gold became a trend adopted due to how it complements the skin tone of many, but despite this, yellow gold still holds its own in the background, whilst enjoying a place in the spotlight on a frequent basis.

The Comeback

Not that we need an excuse to wear our gold jewellery from past and present, but momentum has been building again for some years. Gold jewellery decorated the Spring/Summer 2022 catwalks this year, along with vibrant gemstones, personalisation and bold statements that reflected our need for ‘dopamine dressing’.
