With the Ingenieur Automatic 40 50th Anniversary, IWC Schaffhausen celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Ingenieur SL, reference 1832, designed by the legendary Geneva watch designer and artist Gérald Genta in 1976.
To mark the Ingenieur SL’s 50ᵗth anniversary, the Ingenieur Automatic 40 50th Anniversary joins IWC Schaffhausen's Ingenieur collection as a limited anniversary edition with a case diameter of 40 millimetres. It preserves the design codes that defined the Ingenieur SL, Reference 1832, created by Gérald Genta in the 1970s, combining balanced proportions with enhanced wearing comfort.
Limited to 1,150 pieces, the model features a case and integrated bracelet in stainless steel. The bracelet, which attaches via its middle links, ensures an ergonomic fit. The silver-plated dial with its distinctive brushed finish is inspired by a historic variant of the Ingenieur SL from the 1970s. The rhodium-plated hands and hour markers are filled with Super-LumiNova® and individually set by hand.
As a subtle nod to the anniversary, the lightning bolt that traditionally features in the Ingenieur logo on the dial has been replaced with the number “50”. The Ingenieur Automatic 40 is distinguished by elaborate surface finishing that combines satin and polished surfaces, lending the design depth and reflecting light to striking effect. It features the Ingenieur’s signature bezel, one of the collection's defining design elements.
Secured to the case band with five screws, the bezel has a satin finish with polished edges that accentuate the sculptural quality of Gérald Genta’s design. The integrated bracelet is entirely satin-finished. Powering the watch is the IWC-manufactured 32111 calibre. This self-winding movement features a double-pawl winding system that builds up a power reserve of 120 hours in the mainspring. Like the original Ingenieur SL from the 1970s, the Ingenieur Automatic 40 50th Anniversary features a soft-iron inner case, protecting the movement from magnetic fields.
