When updating a sacred timepiece like the Speedmaster Moonwatch, every detail must be true to its original spirit. This chronograph is recognised the world over, so we’ve approached its design with the most, sincere respect, while taking its movement to the next level. This much anticipated launch from the Swiss watchmaker has been inspired by the 4th generation Moonwatch, worn on the moon by the astronauts of the infamous Apollo 11 in 1969 and commonly known as the ST 105.012. For devotees of the Moonwatch, this exciting new launch presents an opportunity to see this esteemed timepiece commence a new chapter in its marked history.

The Legacy Continues

As one of history’s most iconic chronographs, the most recognised features of the Moonwatch have been preserved. The characteristic asymmetric case, double-bevel caseback, step dial and infamous dot over 90 (DON) and dot diagonal to 70 on the anodized aluminium bezel ring all remain as key details on the timepiece as a tribute to the original design. It is OMEGA’s renowned standards of precision and anti-magnetism that have excelled to new heights. The new Speedmaster Moonwatch is now certified at the industry’s most distinguished level and clients are presented with a new unsurpassable quality.

Significant Updates

Perhaps the most noteworthy update is the introduction of the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861. A movement so powerful that it can withstand even the most extreme magnetic forces up to 15,000 gauss, ensuring that the timepiece is certified as a Master Chronometer – the highest accolade in the Swiss watch industry when it comes to precision and performance. The addition of non-ferrous materials within the movement, such as the Si14 balance spring, also guarantees that the heart of the watch is continuously protected.

The watch bracelet has also seen some changes. The integrated fully brushed bracelet has a five-arched-links-per-row design, as once seen in the recent Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Limited Edition watch. In addition, a new clasp with a polished OMEGA logo on a satin-finished cover presents a beautifully refined appearance.

Subtle changes can also be seen on the dial which now features a new minute track in accordance with the new Calibre 3861’s frequency. Now split by only 3 divisions as opposed to the previous 5, it’s yet another illustration of OMEGA’s precision-led standards.

The new Speedmaster Moonwatch collection offers admirers no less than eight 42mm Master Chronometer models to choose from. Versions are available in stainless steel, 18K Sedna™ gold or 18K Canopus gold™ and all come with OMEGA’s full 5-year warranty
