Vicenzaoro is a key highlight on the jewellery calendar, and our buyers were not disappointed with the creativity and craftsmanship that was revealed this year by the industry.

Vicenzaoro’s 70th Anniversary surpassed all expectations with a record global attendance, over 1300 exhibitors, and visitors representing 141 countries. A platform for building relationships, sharing new innovations, and revealing new collections, Vicenzaoro brings together the most authoritative players in the gold and jewellery world, presenting a European business hub for the industry.

For our jewellery buyers here at Mappin & Webb, Vicenzaoro is a hive of creativity that inspires our jewellery design and technology for the future, highlighting all important key trends. Mappin & Webb jewellery buyer; Daniella Jayes, shares the inside scoop from Vicenzaoro and what you can expect to see over the coming year!

As a business, why do we attend Vicenzaoro?

We attend the show to connect with new and existing suppliers from all over the world, it’s a fantastic opportunity to catch-up with friendly faces and network with industry experts, a real hub for the industry. The agenda is always full of exciting product development meetings, industry panel discussions and inspirational product designs, which you never have to look hard for as there are beautiful pieces in every direction.

What excites you most about Vicenzaoro?

My favourite part of the show is seeing all the latest creations highlighted by luxury brands and our suppliers. This inspires me to build new creative direction concepts that we can bring to life in our collections, celebrating new and emerging trends.

What jewellery trends did you see on the horizon?

Pears, pears, and more pears! We have seen the rise of fancy diamond shapes over the years, and more recently ovals. Initially this arose in the engagement ring category, but this has since evolved across diamond jewellery collections and celebration rings. It’s time for the pear to take the spotlight, from dramatic cascading drop earrings to delicate crossover dress rings, this diamond cut compliments design led and classic pieces. Pear cuts are one of my personal favourites, they are super romantic so I’m looking forward to seeing more of them being incorporated into designs.

Did anyone surprise you in terms of trends or collections?

There were a lot of exciting trends coming through from the high-end designers reimagining classic jewellery techniques in new and inspiring ways, like pave and flush settings. We had expected to see these techniques being used but not as much as they were across multiple designers and brands. Coloured gemstones were also a big surprise. This trend has been coming through since the Vegas industry show last year, but as a trend it is still elevating.

What can our clients expect to see in our jewellery windows over the coming year?

Coloured gemstones shone throughout the show from classic rubies, emeralds, and sapphires to shots of hot pink. Expect to see colour come to life across the summer season and to see classic gemstones in a new contemporary light.

What was your key takeaway from Vicenzaoro?

As always, the jewellery industry is such an exciting industry to be a part of. Vicenzaoro provides a superb platform for the exceptional creatives that breathe life into precious metals and gemstones, creating unique works of art that inspire a global audience of jewellery professionals.
